Week at a Glance 3/11 - 3/15

Students in Greek writing endings and making illustrations for the thrilling tale of how Frog's friend Dog died.

Hello and welcome to the new week!

As a Classical School, we take the task of educating students seriously.  Through the use of enduring texts, subjects, and techniques afforded to us from the classical past, our students have the opportunity to mature under the influence of the greatest things humanity has produced.  We build the minds of our young people according to the best that can be had.  But we do more than this.

SJA is an Orthodox Christian school.  We are compelled also to shape the hearts and spirits of our students according to our great Tradition.  There is perhaps no time in the year that hearts and spirits are touched more than in the season that draws near to us now, Great Lent, which starts on March 18th.

Soon we will be fasting as a campus, attending more services, reflecting on the ministry and life of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and doing more service projects for our surrounding community.  The goal of observing the Lenten season as a campus is to produce good things within us:  compassion, mercy, love, a disdain for evil things, a delight in beautiful things, empathy, resilience, and maturity.

What a great gift we have in the teachings of our Church, that we can trust what has been handed down to us to produce beautiful qualities!

To Hearts and Spirits,

Nima Duncan
