Chapter 7, Division 4 of the California Health and Safety Code requires that any student under the age of 18 years old and upon first admission to any elementary school must be immunized against diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, rubella (measles), and poliomyelitis. In addition, this regulation requires a mumps vaccine for all new students up to the seventh birthday (pertussis and mumps vaccines are not required after age 7). Prior to entering 7th grade students are required to have the 3 Hepatitis B shots or the parents/guardians must provide a written statement that they are opposed to this vaccine. The school administration should be made aware of any medical, physical, or emotional problems of a student that may in any way affect his/her performance in school or school activities.
Students who are ill will not be permitted in school. Parents will be called to pick up their child if s/he is sick. First aid will be administered on premises in cases that appear to be of minor nature. In the event of an emergency, the 911 emergency number will be called and medical personnel will determine the medical care needed. Parents will be contacted immediately and will be expected to provide the follow up care and monitoring.
Medication will not be administered by mouth unless both a written statement from a physician (detailing method, amount and time schedule) and a written statement from a parent are on file in the school office authorizing the staff to assist the student taking such medication.
If your child develops a communicable disease, please notify the school immediately. Students with or recovering from this illness will need a doctor's release prior to returning to school. This policy also applies to such incidences as head lice.
