10. Dropping off & Picking up children

This section contains information updated for the 2011-2012 school year.

Students must be dropped off at the start of the day and picked up promptly at its end, unless they are involved in scheduled extra-curricular activities.

Parents or their designees must come into the school to pick up their children. Please note that for the safety of all our students, only officially designated persons may pick up a student from the school. Parents must notify the school if someone other than the parent on file with the office is going to pick-up a child. St. John's Academy will not release a child into the care of any person other than the parent or official designee - even if that person be a friend or family member known to the child.

Parents may visit and enter the school to drop off their children, without signing in, from 8.00 - 8.30 a.m. each morning (i.e. until the end of morning prayers). Any parents arriving or or wishing to remain on school grounds after 8.30 a.m. will need to sign in at the school office (following our normal practice for day visitors). At the end of the school day, parents may arrive without signing in, in order to pick up their children, from 2.15 p.m. onward (though in practical terms, it is better to arrive at around 2.20 or 2.25 p.m.; prayers conclude between 2.30 and 2.45 p.m.).

Picking up students at the end of the day will take place in the Large Hall, and the door to be used for end-of-the-day activities is that located on 26th Avenue (not the gate on Geary Boulevard). Parents with children both in the lower grade levels (K-5th Grades) and the higher (6th-12th Grades) are welcome to remain in the Large Hall with their younger children while waiting for the later release of older students.

For the safety of your child and the effective operation of the school, it is essential to be on time. Families will be billed $15.00 per child for every 15-minute increment past dismissal time (beginning at ten minutes past the stated dismissal time for each age group) that a child remains in the school after dismissal, in order to help cover the cost of staff time required to supervise such students after official school hours.

No access to classrooms is permitted without prior approval from the school office. We ask all parents to wait for their children in the school hall.

Parents should drive into legal parking spaces before dropping off or picking up their children. Please do not double park or block neighborhood garage entrances.
