September 23rd will mark the tenth anniversary of the repose of Archbishop Anthony of San Francisco and Western America. A pannikhida will be served at 7:00 p.m. at the Cathedral, followed by a memorial trapeza in the cathedral hall. During the trapeza a short documentary on Vladika's life will be shown.

Vladika Anthony was St. John's successor as the ruling bishop of the Western American Diocese. He headed the Diocese for 32 years, which is the longest that any Orthodox bishop in the USA has held a cathedra. Archbishop Anthony will be remembered as the main catalyst for the glorification of St. John and as one of the Russian Church Abroad's most prolific hymnographers. He compiled numerous liturgical texts, among them the services to the New Martyrs of Russia and St. John.

Archbishop Anthony was also the hierarch who encouraged and blessed the foundation of the St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy. He was a gentle and kind shepherd and his memory is very much alive at the academy.

We encourage all our students, families, teachers and friends to take part in these events marking the repose of the Archbishop.
