Buona Sera, Amici!!!

Today, we arose at 5 a.m. to catch the 6:45 train to Naples then catch the Circumvesuviana train to Pompeii and Herculaneum. Mr. Nowak was awed by the frescoes and mosaics which survived the centuries buried under volcanic ash and lava.  The kids especially liked Herculaneum, because it is more compact than Pompeii and the ruins are better preserved.

Weather.com had predicted rain for the entire day, but our Guardian Angels held back the clouds and we had lovely weather for both archaeological sites.  After returning to Rome, we went out for a copious amount of excellent Italian food and are now settling in for some well-earned sleep.

Tomorrow is our free day, and we plan to head back to Saint Peter's in the morning to go through the
ridiculous security line and actually see the inside of the basilica this time.  After that, SHOPPING!  None of us have bought much more than a few cheap souvenirs and food, usually delicious.  Now we all have an idea of what we'd like to pick up in the shops.  We will head to the Spanish Steps and back to the Trevi Fountain, which are in the shopping areas.  We also will try and see the Cappuccin Crypts, especially since we did not get to visit the Catacombs on Sunday.  I'm ready for some more gelato!

Be well, everyone!  We will be back in the States too soon!!!
