This past week, the co-founder's of the Saint John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy, Archpriest Serge Kotar and Matushka Masya Kotar, attended a board meeting of the Orthodox Christian School Association (O.C.S.A.). This organization was founded to facilitate discussion and mutual support amongst existing Orthodox Christian schools and to create resources for the planting of such schools across the continent. The meeting focused on three major points; a.) the creation of Orthodox oriented curriculum, especially in the fields of history and science, b.) the creation of a 'school in a box', a ready to use academic and administration program for parishes wishing to establish schools, and c.) the development of an accrediting body for Orthodox schools, which would assure high educational standards and the Orthodox ethos of schools developed by the Church.
