Dear Friends in Christ,

We have spent forty days preparing for this week. Now we have arrived. Now we are here at Holy Week. During this week the Church opens a door for all of us. A door which our hearts call us to enter and through which we Christians participate, witness, and experience Christ's path to Golgotha and His bright and shining Resurrection. Through the Divine Services, if our hearts are tuned to it, we are present, actually present, at the greatest events in all of history.

The parents, students and teachers of St. John's Academy are encouraged to follow the ethos of our school and should participate in as many services as possible. Father Serge's letter, posted under the Pastoral Messages page, gives us an overview of the services and what is expected of us. In his letter, he uses the words ’mandatory’ and ‘required’. ’Mandatory’ and ‘required’ are harsh to the ear but they convey the importance of these services. For the heart of an Orthodox Christian these services are necessary and crucial. From our inner heart we have a desire and obligation to be present during these the greatest events in our salvation.  For the soul these services are ‘mandatory’ and ‘required’.

Attached is the schedule of services held at the 'Joy of All Who Sorrow' Holy Virgin Cathedral. Please read his letter and review the attached schedule.

In Christ,

The Administration of St. John's Academy
