A reminder that our high school students will have the wonderful experience of visiting the St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco men's monastery in Manton over the first weekend of the school year (Friday 10th - Sunday 12th September).
This is fast becoming an annual tradition at the Academy, much anticipated by our students. While we weren't able to go at the end of the last school year, we made special arrangements - announced at our commencement ceremonies - to mark the start of our new year together by this special high school trip during the first weekend back.
Students will spend two nights at the monastery, with the better part of the three surrounding days. While there, they will have an opportunity to live and pray with the monastic community, speak with various fathers, and engage in the work of a living monastic brotherhood - including candle making, gardening, cooking, handiwork, and whatever else the fathers might have in store.
Please note that, while this weekend away should be extremely enjoyable for everyone involved, it also forms an integrated part of students' religion education in their Academy classes, and therefore the trip is, as ever, a compulsory activity.
Departure will be from our school on Friday afternoon, returning to the Cathedral on Sunday afternoon / evening. Further details on precise times, etc., to follow later this week.
