8-11th graders to visit 'Great America', for a field trip where physics meets roller coasters

On 14th May 2010, the 8th-11th grades will take a field trip to Great America in Santa Clara as part of their studies in science. With all of its roller coasters, drop towers, spinning rides, etc., Six Flags Great America is a wonderful place to experience the subject of physics very tangibly: forces, motion, acceleration, and the like will become much clearer to understand - and in a supremely fun way.

On the day, the park will have everything specially set up so that we can easily take measurements of ride heights, calculate g-forces, and determine acceleration. Fun in the park will be science fun - a unique and wonderful learning experience.

We will leave St. John's at 8.00 a.m. on May 14th, and arrive back at the school at 6.00 p.m. It will be a long, busy day, so the children should dress comfortably, especially with comfortable shoes, and everyone should wear pants (no shorts or skirts). Uniforms need not be worn.

The cost for this field trip is $35 (which includes transportation, parking, and ticket costs). The tickets need to be ordered soon, so please pay the school on or before April 29th. If parents have any questions about this activity or its practical arrangements, please speak with Mr. Davede Thompson.
